Third floor deck time in the Mountains

What we needed was a water tight deck up on the third floor over looking Mt. LeConte. After researching endlessly, I decided to put down a metal deck and now it was time to figure out how to start.

First they had to secure two one and a half inch planks around the front and sides of the deck to dress it off. Two 2x12's western cedar planks were screwed into the framing.

After installing the starter piece it is just a matter of placing a shim to level it up, then screw it to the framing every sixteen inches and then running a bead of caulk down the lip.

The metal flooring comes in 2 foot lenghts, so the salesman worked overtime on how many 12's, 14's, 16's, 18's and 20 foot sections.

The cherry picker is just one of the best things we bought early on, we seemed to use it every other day to reach something.

It didn't take long for this flooring to be installed, you can see the double western cedar planks under the deck flooring....

The deck was trimmed and once the cap piece is installed we are ready for the railing to come....
