The First Trade-a-Long was in Chicago......

After the CCI World Conference that was held in Las Vegas, the first week in December of 2003, a great idea was born....Let's have a trade-a-long where we could help traders all across the country, let's go to Chicago, New Jersey, West Palm Beach, Monterey, Anaheim, Scottsdale and teach them the setups, not just the setup but if they attend these workshops, well they will see the new....secret....version of the CCI.....and with that thought of helping traders....the TAL were born.

So a date was set for Chicago, the hotel was picked (The W), airfares booked and it was a go. 68 people showed up for this one at $295.00. Now the interesting part of this TAL was that you only had to go to paypal and send in a deposit to reserve your seat....seating limited remember....so sign up today!!!

Then a couple days before the TAL, it was announced...OK...you can pay at the door but we don't have a credit card machine (since this is just to help traders and not for profit) and we will not accept checks (why should we trust you?) at the door....so just bring CASH.

So Hoot...you do remember Hoot...don't you? Well he was at the door, with a pencil in one hand and his other hand out as you entered. So how much did he haul in....IN CASH????

Well, figure that 3 didn't pay.....you know...friends.....so that leaves 65 times 300 bucks give or that.....and that is .........WOW. WEll holy cow...that is about $19,000 for a dog and pony show, talk about a stack of cash.

Hoot came over to "him" in the back of the room and had wrapped the cash with rubber bands and handed it to "him" as I was sitting writing some stuff down in the last row. What did "he" say.......after looking at the pack of cold hard cash....He said, "Well, (with a pause) this is going to work out better then I thought".

That is when the whistles and bells went off for me.
Why would someone want to carry that amount of cash around in Chicago and then have to also carry it back home...and then have to deposit it in the bank...why wouldn't they just want this all paid in advance....WHY oh WHY?

I mean you would have to pay all the expenses up front....the airfare, hotel, rental car, conference room, internet, snacks for the crowd, projector, and so on, so why deal with the cash and the risk? WHY?

Would you like to take this question this time anonymous.....or do you want to hear the rest of the story....Sunday night? You could just come clean now.....

Having been around A K Woodmaster's room a bit, I was always suspicious of these TAL's as well. Seems odd that practically every moderator started going especially when they were in FL or CA. Imagine London will be packed. Rover at least had the honesty to once mention that he would attend one if they would pay his way again. If its real charity everyone should be paying their own expenses and Woodrow should not be lounging in expensive suites. IMHO...

When people are running a business, they simply have to risk some upfront business expenses in the hope of netting a bundle after setting off expenses. So, it was a business, ok, pure and simple.

Wonder if I could get a finders fee for sending a link of this blog to my friendly neighbor....the IRS Fraud Inspector...worth a shot. Thanks!

TALs are obvious scams for a certain exclusive group of traders (some real, some fake) to help themselves (Top Dogs Helping Themselves) to paid vacations four or five times a year around the world. You think woodie or gio or tony_uk or anybody is reporting these perks and gifts to the tax man? Shoot, they're all incorporated board members now, shielded from anything. Anybody ever see the corporate charter or by-laws or how exactly it's run? Why would anybody pay to go see Woodie do his fake "I'm moving a piece of paper across a slide projector" live trading and watch gio walking around the back like a high and mighty school marm not talking to anyone? A weekend in Vegas is cheaper and they have professional acts.

To anon904

You must be smoking something. I was at the WPB TAL, saw Gio trade successfully realtime on someone else's laptop in front of at least 50 people, and the rest of the time she was walking around helping/answering questions.

Whether you like it or not, Woodie can fill a room if he brings along the right moderators/speakers. Woodie may no longer have it, but it appears obvious that people like to see, hear and meet the moderators as well as meet other traders going through the same trials and tribulations.

As far as what Woodie does with the money, he is under no obligation to divulge anything to you, Sport, Cheese, or whomever.
You don't like that, tough shit.

I see that Woodie is now promising to divulge how much was actually donated to MAW after this last Chicago TAL - where the price was reduced to $200. (No international flights to pay for this time.) Be sure and post the amount soon Woodie.

So this is a first, progress - why wasn't this done for the other dozen or so TAL's?

You'll note this Chicago TAL was sponsored by Peregrine Charities, eg. Russ Wasendorf and family, who are the owners and publishers of SFO Magazine.

"The fee for either day (or both if you wish) is $200.00. However, CBOT only has 100 spots and Harper College is limited to 250. The fee covers expenses and depending on how many participants we have, we are hoping that Peregrine Charities will have a generous overage. They in turn, will make the full contribution to the Make-A-Wish Foundation."

Then maybe Woodie should drop all the MAW hype. If it's charity then there should be no problem going public with where the money goes and how much goes there. Collecting a backpack worth of cash at a TAL door and then maintaining a cloak of secrecy make one want to go hmmmm....
