Most people have no clue about a TV show called Car 54, Where are you, but Al Lewis played one of the cops named Leo Schnauser from 1961 to 1963. He was on broadway with Phil Silvers and Nancy Walker in the Do Re Mi production.
After "The Munsters," Al made countless appearances in television and motion pictures, performed on the dinner theater circuit around the country and even owned a brokerage firm in Los Angeles for a time, I bet you didn't know that one.....he even ran for governor of New York in 1998.
I was able to eat at his restaurant one time in Greenwich Village while in NYC...it was called ......Grampa's ....of course. We will miss this great sense of humor for sure as he past away last Saturday evening.
