Let's work on the octagon.....while we wait and wait

So let's work on the octagon while we wait for the roofers to finish their job. The first thing was to put in air ducts under the roof so the attic can get some air.

The octagon will be trimmed in 2x12 western cedar planks and then inlaided with 1x6 T&G western cedar planed on the one side that faces out. Each plank is cut and fitted and then attached from behind so nails or screws will not show.

By having the 2x12 rough cut and the 1x6 planed...it gives a two tone look. Can you tell the difference between the last two pictures????

The funny part is that the local guys are in short sleeves or just a long sleeve shirt while the amigos have on heavy coats...........but each floor has it's own chop shop and rip saw.....just easier that way.

When we added the fifth floor and moved the arched windows up to that level we had to order regular ones for the fourth floor octagon....the salesman had no problem...hehe.

James is holding a small chain saw.....yes I said a chain saw. It's about 3 inches in diameter on a disk and does a great job getting small things fitted.

Meanwhile, the roofers are somewhere up there working on something.....

Working down on the fourth floor trimming out the octagon now.....you can see that two clear coats of sealer with a redish tint has been applied to the right side as the amigos work on the next left one.......

The sealer is finished up on 5 as they apply the 1x6 on 4.......
