So what is trading really....

Someone posted that there should be a new book written, with good solid information for people who really wanted to trade....AND make money. That everything out there is just someone taking something and puffing it up again, re-inventing the wheel so to speak.
But after doing this blog for 4 months, and watching YA'LL, I can see why no one has done that...you could have trading ideas, personal posting and just plain BSski.....and what gets the most hits.....you got it, batman.

The markets are just like a rubic cube, you can make it work out for you of course, but just sitting there twisting in the wind with one indicator and then another following a goat farmer like a flock of lost sheep wouldn't get it solved. There never will be a book written like you described.....WHY, no one would buy it, believe it would work or even follow the instructions.

When you buy something, (assuming you are a man, now) do you:
1. Take out the instructions, place all the parts out on the floor and follow the directions.
2. Just start putting it together because "you" are a very smart person and those instuctions are for idiots.
3. Let your wife put it together, after you get ticked off, and go in the house to watch "Trading for Dollars"

At the workshop in Orlando, we hope to change some of that.....Hope being the key word there.

Aww c'mon, we all know the real reason there'll never be such a book put on the market is just simply because anyone really competent enough will not write it in the first place.

Of course people write and read instructions, how else would that bridge have gotten built?

The fact is, trading-profitably simply cannot be taught in any structured course of studies ..... and any would-be student looking for some shortcut provided by instructions/checklists is only looking for something comfortably familiar to deal with, just like his maths/geography lessons in earlier schooldays.

Real fact is, the market is dynamic and trading-profitably can only be learnt in the school of hard knocks (TSOHK). One really useful advice is this : while you're learning the ropes, trade smallest size possible so your final grand total TSOHK school fees do not deplete your future trading capital which must be there when you get the real aha!

Please note that great care has been taken to stress on trading-"profitably" i.e., consistently profitably - in some fixed timeframe like weekly or monthly, at most quarterly .... because you need to cover for expenses on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis - because just anybody can go into trading so long as they have some money in the bank and it takes more than that to trade-profitably.

Mdan,

building a bridge is dealing with something that is inert and that is reasonably predictable, whereas trading is dealing with a market (meaning all market participants using human intelligence) that is evolving all the time.

Of course you may not agree. Good luck to your trading then.

Mdan,

just realized it ain't fair that you're Mdan dealing with evolving "Anonymous" while here I am, an Anonymous comfortably dealing with someone predictably "known" as Mdan.

anonymous 10.44 plus 11.25 plus 11.40 ... that's me.

..."following a goat farmer like a flock of lost sheep..."

Why would sheep follow a goat farmer? Doesn't make sense to me, but then again, I was never in 4H.

Dennis, Do you really make money trading or do you make your money elsewhere?

From bloglassiter,.com:
…”the big cheese” speaks.
Lassiter posted in Open Posts on June 30th, 2005
The internet allows one to assume any identity he or she may choose – be it for fun, or for profit.

Last November, having nothing better to do, I created a character, and entered the wonderful world of blogging as “the big cheese”. As best I can recall, my first post started with the words: “I am now in the twenty-third year of a drawdown…” The blog was about my “adventures” as a futures trader – something I have been interested in for most of my adult life. It was my hobby, and my passion. And like most participants in the game, it frustrated me beyond belief. So I wrote about it in a comical way, basing many of my posts around a chat room (Woodie’s CCI Club) that I belonged to.

The owner of the room found out about the blog, was not amused, and threw me out. This both annoyed and amused me, so I began a two month long tirade, that attracted a lot of attention. The blog at times had a thousand hits a day. What I did not realize was that there were a bunch of people who had “issues” with Woodie, and they gravitated to my blog with their various gripes and complaints – some valid, most petty. The volume and nature of the reader comments overwhelmed what I was trying to do, so being easily annoyed, I pulled the blog and walked away.

My blog – “cheese chat” – spawned nearly a dozen other blogs, and several renegade chat rooms. But trading is hard, and can bring out the worst in people. It also attracts unscrupulous characters who prey on others. Unless one was there from the beginning, it is impossible to fully describe the feuds and soap operas that have unfolded over the past eight months – or the number of snake oil salesmen who have been unmasked.

While I pulled “cheese chat” a couple months ago, I have continued to follow the blogs that came after mine. If nothing else, they have demonstrated beyond the shadow of a doubt the desperation of the average “trader”, and the willingness of some to take advantage of the desperate.

And yet it is hard to feel sorry for the lost souls who run from one guru to another – who rush to any new chat room that springs up – who embrace any new method that pops up, and then curse the darkness when it seemingly fails them.

Allow me to shed any semblance of humility, and say that my blog offered two things no other has provided – some good laughs, and the answers to your prayers – The Secret Plan For Wealth And Happiness. I provided the laughs, and Kiwi shared his expertise with the Plan.

As I continue to follow the never ending sag that unfolds daily with new revelations and questions, I am amazed that no one ever mentions what so many of you were so interested in just a few weeks ago. The Secret Plan comes as close as you will ever get to the answer – virtually every aspect was shown, and it’s validity was displayed for weeks on end.

I have toyed with the idea of bringing “the big cheese” back – I enjoyed the guy, and his adventures, and I miss some of the people, like Tack and Kiwi, who contributed to the blog. I am sorry to see that people like Fearless have abandoned their efforts.

Some of the “old crowd” followed me to this blog. In fact Anon007 left a comment a few days ago, lamenting that this effort is so much different from the previous blog – I know what he means, but who needs the grief that comes with trying to write for a bunch of clowns who just don’t get it – know what I mean?
