Finsihing the trees.....

As they work on the fourth floor, we are also working on getting the posts and beams sealed. The cherry picker is a great way to move around and spray each of the posts on the second deck.

Scooter keeps an eye out for who is working and if they have any snacks left. Except for the damage to the floor during the fire...which was exactly 3 months from today at 9:14pm, things are looking just fine.

The rail people came on Saturday and popped in the second floor rail system, this is all hand made. Three college kids working on the weekend going out and finding the trees, cut them down, peeling them with a power washer, turning the ends down....and drilling the holes in the rail.

The ends are cut in half, sanded and buffed. When they came, it was important that they knew to keep the rails exactly 5 inches off the floor.

The woodcarvers used a pile of these grinding wheels to clean the posts and beams before they could spray them....and they used a lot of these.

Inside the house on the second floor, all those trees that made it look like a forest had been peeled, sanded and buffed which took 3 guys over 4 weeks to finish.
I selected Sikkens sealer with a cedar tint to spray on the trees, WHY this product?
Well it will bring out the reds in the cedar and make them bold, while at the same time giving the tree itself an old weathered look.

When the trees first came to the property, I could see heads shake and got the feeling that everyone thought I had lost my mind after the fire. Then we set them and moved a couple around until I was happy with their placement. We peeled them and the guys started to say, WOW that is a great grain in that tree. The woodcarvers cut the branches off, sanded them down, buffed them and .....WOW.
But after they were sprayed even I was impressed on how it turned out.

The woodcarver asked if he could work on one of the trees and pull an owl out of one of the branches.....of course I thought that was a great idea. The funny part is, we have one worker that has a off the wall sense of humor and as he was walking past the tree, without looking up or missing a step, he said to the woodcarver, "Hey, nice pineapple there" and just keep going. Brandon about lost it, so if you ever come to the house, please ask to see the pineapple. It's great!!!!!
