On Wednesday night at 6:24pm marked our 9th year of being married, we had been together forever.....well since she was 17 that is. See there is a slight difference in our ages, but that is another story.
As you might be aware of, we are UT fans....so Wednesday night we had a private dinner with both head coaches from the university, the Lady Vols head coach Pat Summit and her hubby along with the new head coach for the men, Bruce Pearl and his wife. They told stories and jokes, some of them were inside jokes but we laughed along just the same.
One might think that because of being a high power individual she would be a little stuck on herself.....not even close. She told us about a dinner that the team has every year during pre-season training. Each player has to tell about how they grew up and problems in their lives and were they came from and how they got to the table.
Nicky Ansosike was born in Staten Island but her parents had just arrived from Nigeria with 4 kids, no job, no skills and little money, but they all have what most people who come here have....a DRIVE to be free, a DRIVE to work three jobs and a DRIVE to get an education and make something for themselves. When Pat saw Nicky play for the first time in person, she didn't see a person with a great basketball skills...but she saw a drive and commitment in her eyes and heart, Pat was able to get her a free ride to the University of Tennessee.
If we all believe in our dreams and work hard....some day ....some day they will come true.
